PEO AUDITS & ASSURANCE
PEO AUDITS & ASSURANCE
Professional Employer Organization (PEO) Services
Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs) operate in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. More than 30 states now require financial statement audits or equivalent financial reporting for PEOs to maintain licensure, on top of federal requirements, employee benefit plan requirements, and more. CKH Group provides specialized PEO Audits & Assurance services designed to help organizations navigate those requirements with an experienced team that understands the PEO industry.
As a leading CPA firm based in Atlanta, we take pride in offering PEO services designed to:
-
- Navigate complex PEO reporting requirements
- Support state, federal, and industry compliance
- Coordinate multiple audit and assurance needs
- Provide practical guidance from experienced PEO professionals
PEO Audit & Assurance Services
PEOs often need several interconnected accounting and assurance services across the same organization. CKH provides a coordinated range of services tailored to the PEO environment, including:
Financial Statement Audits & Reviews – Annual financial reporting for state licensing, CPEO requirements, lenders, stakeholders, and other regulatory needs.
Payroll Tax Attestations – Quarterly or annual CPA examinations supporting CPEO, state licensing, ESAC, and other reporting requirements.
401(k) & Employee Benefit Plan Audits – Specialized audits of retirement plans, including multiple employer plans.
SOC Examinations – SOC 1 and SOC 2 examinations providing independent assurance over relevant systems and internal controls.
Tax Services – Federal and multi-state tax support for PEO organizations operating across jurisdictions.
Accounting Services – Support for accounting processes, payroll systems, internal controls, and financial reporting.
CKH’s Approach to PEO Audits & Assurance
PEO engagements rarely exist in isolation. Financial statement reporting can intersect with working capital requirements, payroll tax compliance, employee benefit plans, state licensing, and other ongoing obligations.
CKH takes a coordinated approach to PEO accounting and assurance, beginning with an understanding of the organization, its structure, the states in which it operates, and the reporting requirements it must satisfy. Our goal is to complete each engagement efficiently while helping management maintain strong processes and stay ahead of recurring deadlines and requirements.
What Audit and Assurance Requirements Do PEOs Have?
PEO requirements vary depending on where the organization operates and which certifications or accreditations it maintains.
Common requirements may include annual audited financial statements, minimum working capital requirements, payroll tax attestations, employee benefit plan audits, SOC examinations, and supporting reports for state licensing or accreditation programs.
CPEOs have additional federal requirements through the IRS, including annual audited financial statements and quarterly CPA attestations related to federal employment tax deposits. Because PEOs frequently operate across multiple states, additional reporting requirements may also apply at the state level.
CKH helps PEOs identify and address these requirements as part of a coordinated assurance approach.
Why Choose CKH Group for PEO Audits & Assurance?
Through our acquisition of Jason F. Clausen, P.C., CKH gained a team with PEO experience dating back to 1999, including internal controller experience for a PEO group operating in more than 40 states and audit experience with PEOs ranging from $9 million to $500 million in gross receipts.
That experience gives our team insight beyond the audit itself. We understand the operational, financial, and multi-state regulatory challenges PEOs manage every day. CKH is also affiliated with the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO), helping our team stay connected to developments affecting the industry.
